Five little crocheted decorations for your tree, your window and your table – made from leftover yarn.

The Cozy Christmas Bundle, my crochet Christmas ornaments pattern set, is a little collection of five festive decorations: icicles, snowflake stars, candy canes, a glitter granny and colorful bells. I crocheted them for my own home, mostly from leftover yarn, and now I’m sharing the patterns with you.

Every year I tell myself that I will start early. And every year I look at the calendar and get a little shock. So this year I started with the small things: quick projects that fit into one evening, use up the yarn scraps in my basket, and make the whole house look like Christmas.

What’s Inside the Crochet Christmas Ornaments Bundle

This crochet Christmas ornaments pattern bundle has five patterns, in English (US terms) and German:

  • Icicles: two shapes, a round one and a large one. Because you work several stitches into each stitch, they twist into a spiral all by themselves.
  • Snowflake Stars: two stars in one pattern. Snowflake 1 is easy and finished after Round 4. For Snowflake 2 (intermediate) you simply add Round 5. A crochet chart helps you with every round.
  • Candy Canes: a large and a small one. You crochet two spirals, one red and one white, twist them into each other and bend them over a thin wire.
  • Glitter Granny: a little granny square in glitter yarn, perfect as a tree ornament, a coaster or a gift tag.
  • Colorful Bells: two sizes, one with 5 and one with 6 rounds, worked in cotton yarn in your favorite Christmas colors.

Icicles That Curl by Themselves

This was the pattern that made me smile the most. You crochet a simple strip, and the stitches curl into a spiral without any help. The tighter you crochet, the prettier it curls. I made mine in red, yellow, gray and a little red-white-green one, using hooks between 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm and only 2 to 12 g of yarn each.

Snowflake Stars: Block and Starch!

The snowflake stars are lacy and light, and they look wonderful on the window or on a fir branch. My one big tip: block and starch them. Without starch the stars won’t keep their shape. With white, red, fir green or mint cotton yarn they look especially festive, and the small version only needs 2 to 3 g of yarn.

Candy Canes with a Wire Heart

For each candy cane you crochet two spirals with a 4 mm hook, one in red and one in white, and twist them into each other. A thin wire through the middle bends them into the classic cane shape. A large candy cane takes about 6 g of DK cotton, a small one about 4 g. Bend the wire ends into a small loop so nothing pokes through. They would also look lovely in green and white or gold and white!

Glitter Granny: Tree, Table or Gift

My glitter granny uses about 6 g of glitter cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm hook. You can make her as big or as small as you like, just add more rounds. Hang her on the tree, put a cup on her as a coaster, or tie her to a gift. A little tip: glitter yarn frays easily, so leave the tails a bit longer and weave them in well.

Colorful Bells

The bells are worked in the round with cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm hook, always on the right side, no turning. All three bells together take about 13 g of yarn: the big bell about 5 g, the small one about 4 g. Change the colors every round and every bell looks different.

Which Yarn and Hook?

  • Yarn: cotton yarn or any leftover yarn in Christmas colors. Red, white, green and glitter yarn look especially festive.
  • Hooks: 3 mm to 4.5 mm, depending on the motif. The patterns tell you which one I used.
  • Also useful: yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, thin wire (for the candy canes), pins and a blocking mat, fabric starch (for the stars).
